Young man who tried to assassinate Trump! Thomas Matthew Crooks, 21, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, first came to the attention of law enforcement at Saturday’s rally when onlookers saw him acting strangely before the event.

The alarm triggered a frantic search, but officers were unable to locate him until he managed to reach a rooftop and began shooting. In the shootout, Trump Crooks was wounded in the ear, a bystander was killed and two people were seriously injured. Crooks was later shot dead by Secret Service agents.

Unknown regarding the reasons

“I urge everybody, everybody, please don’t make assumptions regarding his motives or his affiliations,” President Joe Biden said in remarks Sunday from the White House. “Let the FBI do its job and its partner agencies do their job. I have directed that this investigation be thorough and swift.”

Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022. In a video of the graduation ceremony posted online, he can be seen walking across the stage to receive his diploma. The young man has a thin build and wears glasses. The school district said it will fully cooperate with investigators.

In his senior year of high school, Crooks was one of several students who received awards for their performance in math and science, according to a story published in the newspaper Tribune-Review at the time.

Crooks tried out for the school’s shooting team but was rejected because of his poor aim, said Frederick Mach, the team’s current captain, who was a few years behind Crooks in school.

Jason Kohler, who attended the same high school but did not share any classes with Crooks, said Crooks was bullied and no one would sit next to him at lunch. Other students made fun of him for the type of clothing he wore, including hunting gear, Kohler said.

“He was bullied almost every day,” Kohler told reporters. “He was an outcast, and you know what kids are like these days.”

Crooks worked at a nursing home as a nutritional assistant, a job that typically involves preparing food. Marcie Grimm, administrator of the Bethel Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facility, said in a statement that she was “shocked and saddened to learn of his involvement.” Grimm added that a background check on Crooks at the time of his hiring found nothing inappropriate.
