Javier Acosta, the most fervent fan of Colombia’s Millonarios FC, was hospitalized at the San Ignacio Hospital in Bogotá, but was later transferred to another place where he was euthanized.
Acosta fought for five years against an illness that progressively deteriorated his health, which is why he asked to be helped to die. This happened on Friday, August 30.
Hours before the euthanasia, Acosta said goodbye to his followers on social media and sent them a message: “Enjoy every moment, with your friends, with your pals, don’t wait for a friend to be killed so you can tell him: ‘Crazy, I love him’, don’t wait for a pal or a fan to be killed so you can bring him flowers at home,” El Colombiano reported on its website.
How did Javier Acosta get sick?
According to Acosta on his social networks and in interviews, nine years ago he had suffered a traffic accident that left him in a wheelchair and, four years later, he made a trip to Melgar (Tolima) “with my two best friends, my son and I.”
The fungus began to affect her tissues and bones, initially the left buttock bone, which had to be scraped off. Then, the infection spread to the right buttock.
“This bacteria is a yeast that feeds on even antibiotics. I am currently on three antibiotics. They took blood from me, a test here, a test there, and they found that the bacteria moved further and further until it reached not only the bone, but also the tissues, and I have it in my blood (leukemia),” he added.
In a final interview he gave to the program Los Impresentables on Los 40 Principales, the now deceased stated that “for me life is just a little while, I am a true believer that when life gets tough, when it gets hard from so much suffering, one has to smile. I die on Friday at 12.”
