Who was Ismail Haniyeh and why did Israel fear the leader of Hamas? – World

The entire family of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Palestinian resistance organization Hamas, who was martyred in an attack in Tehran, the capital of Iran, has sacrificed for the cause of Palestine. In an attack on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, 10 members of Ismail Hania’s family, including three sons and a grandson, were martyred. In the attack on Ismail Haniya’s house in Gaza, one of his sisters was also martyred.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, Ismail Haniyeh said that his sons Hazem, Amir and Muhammad and his grandsons were martyred in the attack by the Israeli army. An Israeli newspaper claimed the martyrdom of 14 members of Ismail Haniya’s family.

Ismail Haniyeh was one of the most determined leaders of Hamas. He fought against the Israeli occupation of Palestine throughout his life and did not waver at any stage. Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas political wing, was martyred

Over the past few weeks, Israeli aggression in Gaza has increased and attacks on the Israeli army have intensified. Apart from Hamas, Yemen’s Houthi militia and Lebanon’s Hezbollah militia are also in the field. All of them have alternately targeted various locations within Israel’s borders. As a result, fear has increased in Israel and the malaise of the Israeli leadership has also increased.

It was believed that with the martyrdom of his sons, sister and grandson, Ismail Haniya’s steadfastness would be shaken and he would be inclined to soften his position to some extent, but it did not happen. Ismail Haniyeh’s stance remained until his death that he cannot sit peacefully until the occupied Palestinian territories are vacated from Israel and the blood of Palestinian martyrs will not be betrayed in any way.

Who was Ismail Haniya?

Ismail Haniyeh was born in a refugee camp near Gaza City. He joined Hamas in the late 1980s and quickly became a close associate of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder and spiritual leader of Hamas.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Ismail Haniyeh served several sentences in Israeli prisons. After Hamas won the 2006 legislative elections, he became prime minister of the Palestinian Authority government. However, this was short-lived as he was removed from his post the following year in 2007 by President Mahmoud Abbas.

After 10 years in 2017, he was elected as the head of the political department of Hamas. In the same year, Ismail Haniyeh was designated a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” by the US.
