WHO: Russia launched 24 attacks on medical facilities in Ukraine

The World Health Organization has revealed that medical facilities in Ukraine have been subjected to 24 attacks by Russian forces so far, according to what she said in statements to the network.CNN” Thursday.

The organization indicated that these attacks killed 12 people and injured 17 others, and it was verified that 8 people were injured and two medical workers died.

According to the CNN report, the international organization condemned the attacks on medical facilities, which violate international law, and endanger the lives of civilians, stressing that in times of conflict, the safety of health care institutions must be protected.

The report quoted the mayor of Zhytomyr, Serhiy Sukhumlin, as saying that the Mariupol Maternity and Children’s Hospital was not the only hospital that was bombed.

The report clarified that the rules of war stipulate that civilians should not be targeted, and medical personnel, medical vehicles and hospitals designated for humanitarian work should not be attacked.

Despite the Russian denials, during the past two weeks, Russian forces repeatedly bombed medical facilities in Ukraine, according to the report.

A Russian air strike on Wednesday severely damaged the Mariupol Hospital, in an attack that left 17 wounded, according to a local official, Pavlo Kirilenko, according to a report by AFP.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Twitter: “People and children under the rubble … Atrocities! … Stop these murders.”

And soon international reactions were issued, as the White House described the bombing as “barbaric” and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it was “immoral”, and the United Nations stated that health facilities should be kept away from bombing.

In Ukraine, Lyudmila Denisova, a human rights official in the Verkhovna Rada, described the raid on Telegram as “an example of crime once morest humanity and genocide once morest the Ukrainian people”.

For his part, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba once more called on the West to provide Ukraine with aircraft.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman did not deny the attack. But she said Ukrainian “nationalist battalions” were using the maternity hospital to set up a firing position following removing staff and patients.
