The World Health Organization (WHO) launched an appeal on Wednesday for $1.5 billion to protect the health of the most vulnerable populations in 41 emergencies around the world in 2024.
The appeal covers emergencies that require the highest level of response from WHO, in order to reach more than 87 million people.
« Whether it’s mothers giving birth during conflict, helping young children in drought-affected areas, or people receiving cancer treatment or dialysis, health care saves lives “, declared WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, quoted in a press release, stressing that “for people facing emergencies, disruptions to essential health services often mean the difference between life and the death “.

The assistance provided in 2024 will thus make it possible to provide vital health care, distribute essential health supplies and equipment, and maintain essential health services with the aim of ensuring continuity of care.
Funding supports direct access to healthcare for communities in low-access areas, in partnership with local organizations, and an effective response to monitor, share information and document outbreaks and attacks on healthcare workers .
It is also regarding maintaining existing health care systems and building resilience to future threats.
