Who is the woman sentenced to death under PICA Act?
According to an official of FIA’s cyber wing, the Christian woman, Shaughta Kiran, is a resident of Islamabad and had shared inappropriate material related to Prophet Muhammad on social media in September 2020.
After receiving a complaint from citizen Shiraz Ahmed, a case was registered against the Christian woman on July 29, 2021 and Shaughta Kiran was arrested.

According to court records, Shaughta Karan is a mother of four children. According to the same record, a bail application was filed by Shaughta Karan in March 2023, which was rejected by the concerned court after hearing the arguments of the parties.
Shaughta Karan has the right to file an appeal against the court decision in the Islamabad High Court within 30 days.
It should be noted that earlier Asia Bibi, who was sentenced to death for blasphemy, was kept in prison for eight years, but in October 2018, a bench headed by the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Asif Saeed Khosa, acquitted the local While accepting Asia Bibi’s appeal against the decision of the court and the Lahore High Court, the charges leveled against her were dismissed as false and she was acquitted.
