Sayed Nosseir is the first Egyptian and Arab to win a gold medal in the Summer Olympics.
The Arabs had no presence on the podiums of the Olympic Games until 1928, when the Egyptian weightlifter Sayed Mohamed Nossir participated in the Amsterdam Olympics and returned with the first gold medal in the history of the Arabs and Egypt.
The origin of Sayed Naseer
Sayed Naseer was born on August 31, 1905 in the village of Shobar in Tanta. He joined Tanta School and then Tanta Secondary School, where he began practicing weightlifting.
The beginning of his attachment to weightlifting
Naseer’s story with weightlifting began with his admiration for one of the Egyptian champions who used to attend a “popular festival” in his hometown of Tanta, called Abdel Halim Al-Masry.
His most notable achievements
In 1925, Sayed Naseer participated in the Egyptian Championship and won it, and he kept this championship until 1928.
After Nasr won the Egyptian Championship in 1928 in the light heavyweight and heavyweight categories, he began his preparations for the Amsterdam Olympic Games in 1928, and his training was supervised by the distinguished coach Muhammad Basyouni.
Sayed Naseer participated in the Amsterdam Games and won the light heavyweight gold medal with a total of 355.5 kg, becoming the first Egyptian and Arab to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games.
Sayed Naseer became famous after his return from Amsterdam, and his achievements contributed to the spread of weightlifting in Egypt and the Arab world.
In 1930, Sayed Nossair won the World Heavyweight Championship in Munich and a year later he won another world title in Luxembourg.
Naseer then continued his successes in weightlifting, and was able to achieve nine records that stood for a period of time in lifting weights that reached 167 kg.
The end of his career
Naseer ended his career as a weightlifting champion in the early 1940s, and turned to training and contributed to the spread of the game and the graduation of a wonderful generation of champions, led by Khader Al-Tuni, Ibrahim Shams, and Anwar Misbah.
Sayed Naseer received the Nile Medal in the 1940s and the Sports Medal from President Gamal Abdel Nasser in October 1965.
