Rodrigo Chaves will be the new president of Costa Rica, the most prosperous country in Central America.

The candidate of the Social Democratic Progress Party, created in 2018, prevailed over his opponent, José María Figueres Olsen, of the historic National Liberation Party, in the second round of the presidential elections. And he will relieve, thus, the outgoing Carlos Alvarado.

Chaves will be in charge of one of the most developed countries in Latin America with a welfare model that, however, is beginning to show cracks.
