Creating a television channel is never an easy project. But doing it in nine months, and starting from nothing, that’s a challenge, even if TVMonaco benefited from a budget of 13.7 million euros for this in 2023. This is the challenge taken up by Nathalie Biancolli, general director of the new channel launched in September, the first public channel in the principality. “I had already launched channels in the past, each time with the support of a group, a management team, a catalog, explains the leader, born into a family with Italian origins, of Blackfoot parents from Morocco. There, we started “from scratch”, we had to think regarding the pillars, the organization chart, the technical part, the contents…”. It was following a meeting with Salim Zeghdar, who carried out this channel project for Monaco, and out of a desire to take on this challenge, that she was poached two years ago from France Télévisions, where she had been managing until ‘then international fiction. Result: an installation on the Rock, and months of intense work, until the inauguration with great fanfare on September 1st.

Two other channels accompanied Nathalie Biancolli’s journey. During her career, she worked on the birth of NT1 (now TFX) in 2005 and supported the launch of TMC on TNT at the same time. Not to mention movie channels. At the time, it was within the AB group that she learned to create new media. An experience that saves him from certain mistakes. On the other hand, “here, what is different for me is the technical partrelate-t-elle. We looked first for a direction in technology.” Made up of two people initially, the team now numbers around sixty permanent staff, including directors and content experts, all of whom it recruited.

To succeed, the one who readily describes herself as “strategist” et “visionary” counts on its dual role, both commercial and content. On the commercial side, she worked for many years on acquisitions within the RTL, AB and TF1 groups. In terms of content, a subject that she masters perfectly, she has ambitions. For her, for example, content takes precedence over format, priority is given to the stories to tell. Another notable fact, in 2018 it initiated the European Alliance, uniting France Télévisions, ZDF and Rai around the development of co-productions. And has a network in the audiovisual world. Just one example, TVMonaco is a member of the TV5 Monde network, of which she is president of the remuneration committee. So many tools that she does not intend to deprive herself of to boost the chain. And the DG clarified: “Our challenges today are: launch many productions and control our rights in this area, make ourselves known, and set up our digital platforms.”
