Uruapan, Michoacán.― Mauricio Cruz Solisfounding journalist of the news portal Minute x Minute Michoacánwas murdered on the night of this Tuesday, October 29, in the center of Uruapan, after having live broadcast an interview with the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo Rodríguez.
According to preliminary reports, the attack took place around 9:30 p.m. hours in the downtown area of the city, in the vicinity of the House of Culture.
Before being executed, Mauricio Solís had interviewed the municipal president about the fire that destroyed at least 66 stores in the Tariácuri Market and he broadcast it on his social networks, around 9:15 p.m., without imagining that minutes later his life would be taken from him.
The last minutes alive of the executed journalist
The reporter and his team prepared the programa “La Jiribilla Naichow”a format that had been announced as “totally different“, since it was the first time they broadcast live from an open spacein the middle of a public road.
Mauricio Solís, dressed in a dark jacket with red trim, a t-shirt underneath and a cap with a logo, greeted his followers on social networks:
“A very good evening to all the people who listen to us and tune in, who see us through social networks, this ‘Jiribilla Naichow’, something totally different because we meet for the first time away from home. “We are in the center of the city of Uruapan, where a few days ago an unfortunate fire occurred.”
He walked around the the Tariacuri Market showing how the place looked, where the journalist spoke with tenants affected by the incident.
On whose journey, Mauricio Cruz Solís had a chance encounter with the Mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, who agreed to be interviewed live and commented on the actions of the municipal government to respond to the emergency.

Carlos Manzo assured in the interview that 10 million pesos will be allocated for the rehabilitation of the marketalthough he pointed out that still It has not been determined whether the fire was an accident or an intentional act.something that the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Michoacán will define the investigation.

Solis he concluded his broadcast and left the scenebut minutes later he was intercepted and shot in a direct attack, according to the first versions of witnesses.
The journalist received several bullets and when police officers arrived, he was declared dead at the scene. Municipal and state authorities cordoned off the area.

He governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedollasaid that an operation was launched to identify those responsible for the crime.
“In Michoacán there is no room for impunity and whoever does it, pays for it, let it be heard loud and clear,” reads his X account.

Who is Mauricio Cruz Solís, journalist murdered after interviewing the mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán?
Mauricio Cruz Solís said he was a young man of only 25 yearswith extensive experience in local journalism.
He began his career at the age of 17. as a newspaper reporter ABC of Michoacánto later join the team of The Opinion of Michoacán.
He later founded Minute x Minute Michoacán, a news platform with a regional focus where it reported on security issues, politics and community events.

The Prosecutor’s Office added that it works at the site where the communicator was shot “in accordance with the protocol regarding crimes committed to the detriment of journalists.”
The radio station for which Cruz Solís worked mourned his death in a statement posted on social networks.

“Mauricio was more than a colleague, he was an unconditional friend, a source of inspiration and a tireless voice at the service of our community,” the company said.
Mexico, hit by a wave of violence from organized crime, is considered one of the most dangerous countries to practice journalism, with more than 150 journalists murdered since 1994, according to the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
