Ahead of the start of a new NFL season, the Los Angeles Chargers announced that they have signed Luis Pérez, a quarterback born in California but with Mexican roots thanks to his parents, named Juan and Carla.
“We have signed quarterback Luis Pérez”was the message that the franchise published on its official X account on August 6. On its website, it also details how this athlete’s career unfolded, which is very rich for someone still young.
Perez was born on August 26, 1994, and began playing football as a child. While in college, he was a member of the Southwestern College team, where he set records for completions (665), passing yards (8,325) and touchdown passes (78).
His journey in the NFL began in 2018, when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. He later became a member of the now-defunct Birmingham Iron, and in 2019 he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles.
His next stint was with the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Wildcats, New York Guardians, New Jersey Generals. He had a second stint with the Rams in 2022, but lasted only a few weeks there. In March 2023, he joined the Arlington Renegades.
“It’s a very special thing to be able to be here in Los Angeles. I grew up being a Chargers fan when I was in San Diego, from that time, so it’s something very nice that I want to cherish.”said the player after joining his current franchise.
On the other hand, Perez said: “There are very few, but I hope I can be an inspiration for Mexicans who want to play American football and see that they can do it just like I did. I hope they follow my steps and follow their dreams.”
The quarterback made his debut with the Chargers on August 10th in a game against the Seattle Seahawks. He said: “Everything went very well. Right now I’m just focused on learning the plays, because when a QB doesn’t know the plays, he can’t show his full potential. And right now my focus is that.”
