Despite the fact that the designer herself acknowledged that the actress expected Westwood herself to present her with a fashion award, the designer admitted at the ceremony that it was the first time she had learned of Watson’s existence.
This Thursday the death of the iconic designer and founder of the punk style Vivienne Westwood at the age of 81 was announced. The British famous for her daring designs, she always gave what to talk about in her country, but, apparently, she lived disconnected from the pop world, to the level of completely ignoring the actress Emma Watson.
And it is that said moment occurred at the height of Watson’s popularity in 2011when the last film in the Harry Potter saga was released in theaters: The Deathly Hallows Part II.
The eccentric fashion designer was in charge of presenting the award for Style Icon of the Year, delivered by Elle magazine to the then 20-year-old actress.
However, his words ended up confusing the public. Going on stage, Westwood denied reading the text that the magazine had prepared for the award and wanted to improvise in his own style.
“Everyone has been very generous and kind, but I don’t, and I apologize for that.”he began by saying on stage, assuring that the organization had given him a text “about this woman and how wonderful she is.”
“Yesterday they told me that this lady would like me to give her the prize if she wins”he added, to then admit that “I did not know who he was.”
“They told me: Emma Watson. I asked: Who is Emma Watson?“, he recounted, pointing out that” I never watch television, and I don’t read fashion magazines. They told me it was in Harry Potter and I told them I’ve never seen Harry Potter.”noting that although he did not know about her, “I think she is charming.”
“So I would like to present this award to Emma, whom I just met.”hill.
According to the magazine Standard, Emma Watson was nervous when receiving the award and even stuttered in her speech, although she played down Vivienne Westwood’s snub. Even so, the young woman left the place as soon as the ceremony was over.
