They call them “the dynamite sisters”. Leonela and Dayana Sánchez are two great boxers from Cordoba who had a moment of glory when they won medals at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

Leonela hung the gold, Dayana the silver. Great expectations weighed on them for what was coming at the Tokyo Olympics. However, something unexpected happened.

Both tested positive for doping control. It happened in 2019, so they were left out of the Buenos Aires Pre-Olympic, qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The substance found in Leonela and Dayana was furosemide, a diuretic used in sports to mask other drugs and that in boxing is often used to face the scales.

In this way, the Cordoba women lost their chances of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. In addition, they were left out of the Argentine boxing team.

Along with his sister Leonela, “Day” is already part of the Juan Pablo II neighborhood physiognomy. A group of neighbors decided to pay tribute to the Pan American medalists in Lima 2019 and made a couple of murals on the corner of the Sánchez sisters’ house.

The mural was made in 2021.
