David Kershenobich is the son of Jacobo Kershenobich and Flora Stalnikowitz. He was born on November 20, 1942 in the then Federal District. However, at a very young age he moved to Tampico, Tamaulipas, where he completed his primary, secondary and high school studies.

Es Surgeon with specialty in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Salvador Zubirán Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition and, later, the specialty in Hepatology at the Royal Free Hospital in London, England. He also obtained the Doctorate in medicine at the University of London with the thesis “Transferrin Metabolism”.

He has dedicated himself to study of the pathophysiology of liver cirrhosismainly in the field of Fibrosis.

Also founded the Liver and Pancreas Research Unit located at the General Hospital of Mexico, as well as the Mexican Foundation for Liver Health (Fundhepa).

Since 1975 he has been a professor of Gastroenterology at UNAM and has published more than 500 medical articles. He has written four books and has been an editor and member of the editorial boards of many national and foreign journals.

Currently it is Emeritus Researcher Level III of the National System of Researchers.

He has served as President of the Mexican Association of Internal Medicinethe Mexican Association of Gastroenterology, the Mexican Association of Hepatology and, from 2000 to 2002, as president of the International Association for the Study of the Liver.

He was President of the National Academy of Medicine (ANM) from 2010 to 2012. He received the Medal of Merit in Science, awarded by the Legislative Assembly of Mexico City (ALDF) on April 26, 2016.
