Daniela Medina Ortega, at 27 years old, achieved this Friday the dream of a lifetime: to be crowned as the queen of the Carnival of the Earth, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Since she was little she was part of the carnival world, at the age of 4 she already wore the flag of the Rio Bamba comparsa. In addition, she admits to journalists that the crown became her dream in 2007, following her sister Silvana de Ella got the throne.
A lover of photography, dance and travel, she currently lives in Barcelona, far from her hometown. However, his commitment to the Carnival of Gran Canaria has sustained him since he was a little girl, and he has not forgotten it even when he is thousands of kilometers from home. The queen of the Carnival is a cosmetic and hair surgeon, and she carries the party in her blood, since her parents met in a comparsa.
“Carnival is my life, apart from my family and friends. Without the carnival I would not be here, because my parents met in a comparsa and as a result of that love I came out,” the queen explained to Canary 7.
In fact, the commitment to this tradition is so strong that as soon as the possibility of performing arose, even while in Barcelona, he did not hesitate to do so. It was his dream, and it was also his designer, Juan Carlos Armas, a family friend. They both represented The Taste for Wine and Dormitorumwith the design embracing a dream, that captivated the public and the jury, made up of journalists Raquel Sánchez Silva and Paco Luis Quintana and humorist Kike Pérez.
Last night, Daniela looked spectacular and changed her skin for that of a butterfly to conquer Santa Catalina Park, where the election was held, with a commitment to pastel colors and a design full of details. “Behind me there are dozens of people making this crown possible, and I owe this moment to all of them,” she explained emotionally during one of the best nights of her life.
And it is that for the protagonist of last night, this year’s Carnival is “very special”. This year the event revolves around the planet earth and its care, and Medina has been very aware of it for a long time. “I am a person who has been recycling for many years,” she explained in that interview.
“I don’t eat meat and I think that, although I do it for the animals, it also contributes to the environment. On the beach it makes me sick to see garbage and butts and I start picking them up. We have to be aware that the world is not eternal and between we all have to take care of it,” she settled, showing that she is the perfect candidate for the throne.
Medina becomes the successor of Minerva Hernández, elected in 2020, the longest-running queen of Carnival, following two years without the event due to the pandemic. The party has finally regained its illusion, and she feels excited to be the one to lead the return of this tradition. Sandra Vega, Nisa Alemán, Norma Ruiz and Josefina Díaz will finally be the bridesmaids.
It is his year, without a doubt, and despite living far from home, he will devote himself 100% to his work. In fact, he has already assured that he does not plan to miss the summer parade. The gala has become a national trending topic for another year, and her queen was the most beloved among the spectators, who know that she will set the bar high for future candidates for the throne.
