Recently, Alexander Fridman’s comments are often found in various media. One feels that he has a deep understanding of the Belarusian situation.

Who is this knowledgeable person?

Alexander Friedman is well known as a publicist in Germany, Belarus, Poland, Israel and other European countries.

Born in 1979 in Minsk. In 1996-2001, he studied history at the Belarusian State University, which he graduated with honors, having defended his diploma on Jews in Poland, Lithuania and France at the end of the 18th century.

In 2002-2005, he studied modern history, philosophy and the German language at Saarland University (Germany), where he received a master’s degree. Since April 2006, he worked in the archives of the German Saarland for the Yad Vashem (Jerusalem) Holocaust history project.

Since April 2008, he has been an associate professor at Saarland University, as well as an associate professor at the Department of Natural Sciences in Paris in Nancy (he teaches 19th-century European history at the undergraduate level).

In 2009, he defended his doctoral thesis at Saarland University on the topic “Images of Germany in the Belarusian Soviet society in 1919-1941: propaganda and experience”.

Since July 2009, he headed the German-Belarusian research group within the framework of the research project “The murders of the disabled, the sick and infants in Belarus in 1941-1944.”

He teaches new and recent history in several European universities. Field of scientific interests: history of Belarus, history of the Soviet Union, Russian and Polish history, history of Israel, history of Jews in Eastern Europe, Nazism.

Thus, although Alexander Friedman is a German historian, he is also our, Belarusian.
