The World Health Organization (WHO) has managed to deliver 160 tons of medical supplies to Ukraine, where a total of 82 attacks on health facilities have already been registered, causing 72 deaths and more than 43 injuries, according to the director of the organization, Tedros Adhanom.

The director has intervened in a press conference this Wednesday, in which he regretted that the war continues and has demanded that “the attacks cease immediately” because “attacking a health institution is a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law.” “We cannot continue to witness attacks on health institutions since the beginning of the invasion by the Russian Federation,” he stressed.
In addition, Tedros Adhanom has urged the Russian authorities to allow more medical supplies to arrive, especially to cities hardest hit by the invasion, such as Mariupol. “We have issued lines, guidelines and donations in which we have included a list of critical supplies that are urgently needed,” he said.
On the other hand, he highlighted the situation in Afghanistan, where he also stressed that health aid is necessary, since “more than 24 million people will need assistance before this year”. Last year, as he acknowledged, different disorders took place that affected health services, creating an exodus of professionals, women and girls, who are at risk “because in some cases they do not have access to health services or to education”.
“The population faces problems such as migration, droughts, food insecurity and malnutrition, in addition to COVID and other health challenges,” he detailed.
For this reason, he has affirmed that it is necessary to invest in health and education because Afghan girls have not been able to go to school for a week by prohibiting it.
Lastly, he exposed the situation in Ethiopia, where a declaration of a humanitarian truce was recently made in Tigray (Ethiopia). Tedros Adhanom has lamented that, despite a few days having passed since that announcement, public services, electricity, telecommunications, banking or health services have not been restored.
“Every hour is of the utmost importance for those suffering from malnutrition since mid-December. The lockdown, which has lasted more than 500 days, is the longest in modern history,” he lamented.
This Thursday is scheduled to send 95 tons of supplies to help the population of that country.
