- The Venezuelan Olympic Committee also announced that the athletes who will compete in this edition of the Olympic Games have already received the clothing to wear during their participation.
The Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) announced on July 2 that triple jumper Yulimar Rojas and weightlifter Julio Mayora will be in charge of carrying the Venezuelan flag on July 26 during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (OG).
Rojas will repeat as Venezuela’s flag bearer following having represented the country in the Tokyo 2020 Gamesin which she was accompanied by karateka Antonio Diaz; while Mayora won the silver medal in weightlifting in the competition in the capital of Japan and in the last two Pan American Games she took the gold medal.
Yulimar Rojas will be the flag bearer despite not being able to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to a injury to his Achilles tendon left side for which she had to undergo surgery at the Cemtro Clinic in Madrid, Spain on April 12.
The athlete expressed her frustration at what happened and confessed to feeling emotionally affected by not being able to represent Venezuela at the Olympics. However, the mishap did not prevent her from carrying the tricolor flag during the opening of the world event.
The selection of the national flag bearers has been carried out by consultation since 2008. The voting process involves those qualified for the Olympics, the committees of 19 states in the country and their respective Olympic municipalities, the board of directors of the organization and representatives of the Ministry of Sport and the National Institute of Sport (IND).
The COV also announced that the athletes who will compete in this edition of the Olympic Games have already received the respective outfits to wear during their participation, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.
“The president of the COV, Maria Soto, together with the Head of Mission of Venezuela, Franklin Cardillo, presented the tricolor uniform that will be used for the flag-raising ceremony of the universal fair,” the Committee said in a message published through its social networks.
