Details of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place over 11 days and will bring together 4,400 of the world’s leading Paralympic athletes to compete in 22 sports.

“While the Tokyo Paralympic Games took place over 12 days of competition, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will be held over just 11 days, with a more dense programme of exciting events,” according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

According to the IOC programme, the athletes will not start on August 28, as that day will only be reserved for the opening ceremony, so the competitions will start on August 29.

The organization also reported that there will be 18 venues to host the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

How did Venezuelans fare at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games?

At Tokyo 2020, the Creoles won a total of seven medals: three gold, two silver and two bronze; as well as 17 Paralympic diplomas. The outstanding performance of the parathletes placed the country in 38th position in the medal table, dominated by China (207), the United Kingdom (124) and the United States (104).

The flag bearer of that edition, Lisbeli Vera, became the Venezuelan athlete with the most medals in the history of the Venezuelan delegation in a universal event of adapted sports, with two gold medals and one silver. Of the seven medals won in Japan, six were obtained by women, and August 31 was the day with the greatest achievements for the national delegation.

In that competition, Vera won two gold medals, in the women’s 100 and 200 metres; and a silver medal in the women’s 400 metres. All in the T47 category (unilateral disability in the upper limb).

The other gold medal for Venezuela came from Linda Pérez who achieved a time of 12.5 seconds in the women’s 100-meter dash T11 (visually impaired).
