White House: We are aware of reports of Haniyeh’s assassination

New York – The White House announced that the United States is aware of the news related to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

In a statement reported by CNN on Wednesday, an unnamed White House official said: “We have seen the news about the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.”

The American network reported that the official did not provide detailed information on this subject.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Palestinian factions movement announced the assassination of Haniyeh following a “treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran, after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president.”

Iranian state television also reported that Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, explaining that “the investigation into the assassination is ongoing and the results will be announced soon.”

The Israeli army refrained from making a statement regarding the assassination of Haniyeh, saying: “We do not comment on these reports.”

This was stated by an official in the army spokesman’s unit to an Anadolu Agency correspondent by phone on Wednesday morning, in response to a question about whether he confirmed that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli attack in Tehran.

Haniyeh’s last appearance in Tehran was during the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday evening.

This was preceded by talks held on Tuesday evening with Bazeshkian regarding political and field developments related to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, according to a statement by the movement.
