The White House said President Joe Biden had received reports that Russia might attack Ukraine at any time and would convene a national security meeting to discuss the matter.

White House press secretary Jen Saki said at a briefing on the situation in Ukraine that “President Biden is monitoring the situation in Ukraine and is receiving regular updates from his national security team.”

He also added that President Biden was reported to have had meetings with Vice President Kamala Harris, who was attending the Munich Security Conference, and leaders of the European Union, NATO, Ukraine and the Baltic States.

President Biden said on the 18th that he was concerned regarding the possibility of a Russian invasion of Ukraine and that he had evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin was determined to invade.

He cited U.S. intelligence capabilities as the basis for his judgment, noting that Russia is targeting Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, saying “we have good reason to believe that Russia will attack Ukraine in the next few days.”

“If Russia carries out its plan, it will be a catastrophic choice, and the United States and its allies are prepared to defend even the last piece of NATO territory,” he said.
