On the contrary: four days before the election in November 2016, the state-owned Hainan Airlines rented a room in the real estate tycoon’s hotel tower in Las Vegas, which it kept for 14 months for $195,662. Compared to the rent that the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China paid for several floors in Trump Tower in New York, that was “peanuts”: a mere $5.3 million flowed from the bank into the president’s pockets between 2017 and 2019.
