Will This Year See a White Christmas? Hopes Rise as Weather Shifts
With just 22 sleeps left until Christmas, the excitement is building. Visions of crackling fireplaces, twinkling lights, and perhaps even a dusting of snow fill our minds. While visions of sugar plums dance, many secretly hope for a truly magical touch—a white Christmas.
This longing for a snowy holiday is shared by two radio personalities who’ve been making a Christmas wish of their own every Monday for months. Jordy and Mark, from the radio program KEIgoeiemorgen, haven’t let go of their hopes for a picturesque snowy Christmas. They’ve been diligently quizzing weatherman Floris Lafeber from Weerplaza about the possibility, week after week, since August. Until recently, the outlook wasn’t promising. Lafeber’s usual response was a somber “around 7 percent,” leaving the hopeful duo slightly deflated.
But on Monday morning, Lafeber delivered a glimmer of hope. After months of hopeful questioning, he finally conceded, “The chances are a little higher than normal.”
Cheers erupted from Jordy and Mark as they heard the news that the odds of a white Christmas had risen to 15 percent. Though Lafeber cautioned against expecting a full-blown Elfstedentocht (a famous Dutch ice skating marathon), the increase in probability has kindled the Christmas spirit for many, including our radio duo.
Is a Winter Wonderland on the Horizon?
The current temperature trends suggest the traditional winter wonderland envisioned by carolers might be more wishful thinking than reality. Thankfully, the forecast is looking promising.
Lafeber confidently assures us, “Tonight the wind will change and cooler air will come to our country. We will notice that, then the mercury will drop to 5 to 8 degrees, so that will save a coat.”
Whether this refreshingly cooler air will translate into snowflakes blanketing the land remains to be seen. While the chance of a white Christmas has modestly improved, it’s too early to break out the sleds.
Only time (and the ever- mercurial weather) will tell if this Christmas will truly be a white one. For now, we’ll keep our fingers crossed and dream of snow-covered rooftops and frosty windows. After all, even a small chance of a white Christmas is enough to add a touch of magic to the holiday season.
Which regions are most likely and least likely to experience a white Christmas based on these predictions?

**Interviewer:** Absolutely. So, what are the early predictions looking like?
**Danique Pals:** According to the 2025 Old Farmer’s Almanac, it might be a mixed bag. They’re forecasting a chance of snow in Northern Maine, but unfortunately, not much luck for the rest of New England. The Atlantic Corridor and Appalachians are also looking unlikely to see a white Christmas.
**Interviewer:** So, for a lot of us, it seems like the chances are slim. But isn’t there always a surprise element to weather?
**Danique Pals:** You’re right, there’s always that element of surprise! Weather patterns can shift unexpectedly, especially as we get closer to December. So, while the early predictions aren’t promising for most of the country, keep those fingers crossed!
**Interviewer:** Thanks for giving us the lowdown on the white Christmas forecast, Danique. Maybe we’ll all see a snowy miracle this year.
**Danique Pals:** Here’s hoping!
