The first attempt was only granted a very manageable success: The Chinese brand Maxus, something like the commercial vehicle department of the car company SAIC (MG Motors, Roewe), brought the first fully electric pick-up T90 EV to Europe and thus also to Austria in mid-2023 .

However, the whisper-quiet work colleague is missing a crucial ingredient in the form of all-wheel drive. Because a pick-up without a 4×4 drive is hard to imagine in daily use. That’s why only around 50 are running in Austria.
But: The Chinese are learning quickly and recently presented an electric pick-up that has been improved in all respects at the IAA in Hanover. The 5.5 meter long Maxus e-Terron 9 has two electric motors on board that provide a system output of 325 kW (442 hp). The electric double heart not only enables powerful acceleration, but also all-wheel drive.

The 4×4 system has six preset driving modes such as “Normal”, “Sand” or “Mud”. In addition, the driver can individually configure a mode depending on requirements. Steering, performance, stability control response, energy recovery (strength of recuperation) and the height of the body can be adjusted according to personal preferences. The latter is made possible by the standard air suspension.
A lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a usable capacity of 102 kilowatt hours (kWh) serves as energy storage. According to the WLTP standard, a range of 430 kilometers should be possible in the best case scenario. The battery is recharged with 11 kW on the wallbox (AC) or on the quick charger (DC) with at best 115 kilowatts (kW) charging power. According to Maxus, this should be enough to charge the battery pack from 20 to 80 percent in just over 40 minutes.
In order to always have an optimal battery temperature, a special ventilation system is installed in the Maxus eTerron 9.
The electric flatbed truck has bi-directional charging (Vehicle-to-Load/V2L) as standard. This means that the battery can also supply stored energy to external consumers. There are also 2.2 kW sockets in the front trunk (frunk); There is also an external 6.6 kW connection on the loading area. Craft businesses can connect their tools just as private customers can connect their electric bicycles or cool boxes.
The start of sales for the Maxus eTerron 9 in Austria is planned for the first quarter of 2025, only then will prices and details about delivery times be available.
