Nancy Liliano, the 31-year-old investigated for the death of the two carabinieri Francesco Pastore, 25, and Francesco Ferraro, 27, killed in the accident that occurred in Campagna (Salerno) in the night between last Saturday and Sunday, has been released from hospital. She and she immediately returned to freedom following being hospitalized in the San Francesco d’Assisi hospital in Oliveto Citra for the injuries sustained in the accident. The woman was driving the SUV which hit the car in which three policemen were travelling, the two deceased and a third who had less serious holidays. A 75-year-old man who was in a third car involved was also injured in the accident.

Liliano, assisted by the lawyer Antonio Boffa, is being investigated by the Salerno prosecutor’s office for vehicular homicide and negligent injury. She tested positive for alcohol and not negative for cocaine and the results of the second level toxicology test are awaited. The 31-year-old will probably be the only one investigated in the investigation since the responsibility of the marshal who was driving at the time of the impact has already been excluded. The woman then returned to her home in the historic center of Campagna, where she lives together with her mother. According to what was reported by her defender, who spoke with the 31-year-old who had just been released from hospital, Liliano is “sorrowful at what happened, being faced with a tragedy that is causing profound suffering in the families of the deceased carabinieri and in herself”.

The judiciary has not yet questioned the woman. The public prosecutor Elena Cosentino is also awaiting the results of some technical investigations carried out on the Range Rover that the suspect was driving and which will have to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the road accident. «Their death is a murderer. Their death is a crime. Because using narcotic substances means arming yourself”, said Franco Moscone, the bishop of Manfredonia, in the Foggia area, during the homily at the funeral of Francesco Pastore, the Carabinieri marshal who died in the road accident. And once more: «Christ stopped at Eboli. This isn’t just the title of a book or movie. It is true Christ stopped at Eboli on the state road where the road accident occurred and stopped in the bodies of the two Francises. And he stopped in Manfredonia, in our cities that were astonished, struck dumb by what happened. Christ stopped in the Carabinieri and in the souls of all of them due to the umpteenth loss of their men in the service of the community and the State”.

«There are times when words are not enough to express pain and suffering. Our city is shrouded in a blanket of deep sadness and disbelief. A tragedy took away, in the middle of the night, two young carabinieri from the Campagna Command, Marshal Francesco Pastore and Carabiniere Francesco Ferraro”, said the mayor of Campagna Biagio Luongo. And once more: «A life spent in the service of the State to bridge that thin line that separates civilization and legality from barbarism and arrogance. Courageous choices of men and women of value who protect and defend our lives on a daily basis with immense sacrifices and granite dedication.”
