While celebrating France’s victory, a car violently hit and killed a child

A car in the southern French city of Montpellier “violently” hit and killed a boy while fans were celebrating France’s victory in the semi-finals of the Cup the world, according to local regional authorities.

Herault authorities said the driver fled the scene, but the car was found nearby. Police are investigating why the car hit the boy.

And a video clip spread on Twitter showing a car driving dangerously close to crowds in the street following the French team’s victory on Wednesday evening over Morocco.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital and succumbed to his injuries. French media said he was 14 years old.

French legislator Natalie Oziolle expressed her “deep sadness that a sporting event ended in an absolute tragedy.”
