Two players and two members of the support staff of the announced Zimbabwe team for the tour of Pakistan have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The 25-man preliminary squad announced by Pakistan also included Regus Chikabwa and Tammy Sean Moroma who were supposed to travel to Pakistan but were not included in the 20-man squad that arrived in Pakistan.
Chikaboa and Maruma were staying in the same room in a bio-secure bubble at the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy in Harare and both have tested positive for the virus.
After that, the players who came in contact with him were also screened and tested, resulting in two members of the support staff testing positive.
These four persons have been directed to stay in quarantine and hence they have not been made part of the Pakistan tour.
Despite the positive test, Zimbabwe’s visit to Pakistan has not been canceled and the Zimbabwean team has reached Pakistan, which was kept in a separate hotel from these four people before arriving here.
The tests of all the persons before departure to Pakistan were negative and the results of the tests conducted after coming to Pakistan were also negative.
The Zimbabwean team is currently in quarantine which will end on Tuesday and the tests will be conducted again after the quarantine is completed.
A statement released by Zimbabwe Cricket said that Chikabwa and Maruma and two members of the support staff contracted the infection and are currently in isolation as per the Covid-19 protocol.
The board said, “We hope that all four men will recover soon and be part of the team again.”
It should be noted that the Zimbabwean team has visited Pakistan for three ODI and T20 matches.
Yesterday it was announced by the PCB that before the series against Zimbabwe, the corona tests of the players of the national team have come back negative, after which the players have gone into the bio-secure bubble.
