A composite deck: the best sustainable choice?
Craft a composite terrace, is to enjoy the best of both worlds. Indeed, this material is a hybrid since it mixes wood (recycled) and plastic. Thus, with the composite, we obtain a terrace whose appearance is close to wood (it is to be mistaken if we do not know it), while benefiting from the advantages of plastic for the use which will be made of it. Requiring almost no maintenance, the composite does not rust, does not putrefy and can be declined in many colors. In addition, if your terrace is exposed to the sun for a long time (and therefore to its UV rays), it will not lose its color, unlike other materials which can lighten over time. In short: it is the best material to build your terrace, and this, without any doubt.
Create a wooden terrace: the cheap and effective solution
Of course, wood has not said its last word for your terrace! Its main asset remains its warm and ecological side. Several species of wood are suitable for a terrace (notably for their resistance to humidity): cedar or larch are particularly interesting. On the other hand, behind this appearance that seems perfect for your terrace project, wood has a major drawback: regular maintenance must be carried out. Most of the time, we are moving towards a stain that is applied each year to the slabs or the blades of the terrace. Depending on the size of the latter, this can be a lot of work to do. So, if you’re on a budget and have some time (and patience!) to apply stain every year, then wood is a good option for your deck.
The tiled or concrete terrace: efficiency at the expense of design
If the warm side of wood and you composite doesn’t matter to you, then you might consider the concrete or tile solution. Building a terrace with one of these two materials means investing from the start for a long-term resistant project. The good news is that you won’t have to do any maintenance in the long run. : None of these materials will move over time. However, we rarely appreciate the rendering offered by a concrete terrace, especially if you want to keep a natural side that is oh so important when you are outdoors. For tiling, it’s a little different, because it can imitate wood… While being able to break during an impact that is a little too powerful. Our advice: take stock of what you want for your exterior before choosing the right material.
