- The opposition leader called for a worldwide mobilization to ratify Edmundo González as the winner of the presidential elections
On Saturday, August 17, a large-scale global mobilization will be held, called by opposition leader María Corina Machado, to ratify Edmundo González as the winner of the presidential elections on July 28, according to the results of the vote counting minutes published by the Comando Por Venezuela.
The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) reported through its X account that in Caracas, the “Great World Protest for the Truth” will be on Francisco de Miranda Avenue, near the Líder shopping center, at 10:00 am.
“Bring your certificate and your flag! See you this Saturday, August 17,” the opposition alliance said.
Global Mobilization
In a video she shared on social media, María Corina Machado invited Venezuelans to take to the streets of their city, with the printed vote counting records, to protest.
The video features Edmundo González Urrutia, as well as personalities such as influencer Lele Pons, actors Christian McGaffney and María Gabriela de Faría, and comedian George Harris.
The political leader invited Venezuelans to share the video with those who are going to join this rally, which will take place inside and outside Venezuela.
“Find the voting record of your center at www.resultadosconvzla.comprint it and bring it to the rally in your city. Let the world see, with the minutes in hand, that we will not let ourselves be robbed,” Machado stressed on August 10.
Machado also indicated that the movement will be “organized, civic and peaceful,” but reaffirmed that the position they are carrying out has a robust strategy to defend the decision “that Venezuelans made on July 28.”
“It will be a huge event where everyone will have to see the strength, determination, and decision that we Venezuelans have made, that there is no turning back,” Machado said during a conversation with Venezuelan influencer Lele Pons, broadcast through her Instagram account.
Minutes counted
The latest update of the opposition website https://resultadosconvzla.com/created for the publication of the minutes, indicates that they have digitized 25,073 electoral minutes until August 5, which represents 83.50% of the minutes issued by the voting tables.
According to the minutes, Edmundo González won the presidential elections on July 28 by obtaining 7,303,480 votes against 3,316,142 votes in favor of President Nicolás Maduro.
However, on August 2, the National Electoral Council (CNE) issued the second bulletin with the results of the presidential elections of July 28 and confirmed that Maduro was reelected with 6,408,844 votes and 96.87% of the votes counted.
The president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, assured that Edmundo González managed to obtain 5,326,104 votes (43.18%), without the results having been published in detail as established by the legal regulations of electoral processes.
Several countries and international organizations have spoken out in recent weeks to ask the Electoral Registry to publish the records that prove what the CNE announced.
