In order to arouse the curiosity of aficionados of the football series, the publisher has already provided players with a demo available on the Nintendo eShop since on 27 from 2022. This demo allowed players to try out a tutorial to experience the gameplay of the game and play the Quick Match mode locally or online.
Mario Strikers : Battle League Football is the third installment in the Mario Strikers series, developed on Switch by Next Level Games and Nintendo EPD. The release of the game has been announced February 9, 2022during a Nintendo Direct presentation. Mario Strikers : Battle League Football is planned June 10, 2022. If this is the third installment in the series, it is the first game for 15 yearsafter the opus on Wii, Mario Strikers : Charged Football.
What is the game system?
Mario Strikers : Battle League Football uses the same principles of the other opuses in the series, that is to say two teams of five athletes (four players and the goalkeeper) settling their accounts on a football field delimited by an electrified fence. Players must control their character(s) to score goals in the opposing camp. At the end of regulation time, if the two teams have not separated, they must play additional time with golden goals.
The game offers game mechanics quite similar to previous games, to allow players to take advantage during the match: special powers, objects from the Mario universe, tackles and aggressive charges, etc. Players can tackle their opponents next to the electrified fence to stun them for a short time and gain the advantage. Mario Strikers : Battle League Football also offers players the opportunity to recover a luminous orb allowing players on the same team to benefit from a hyper strike for about twenty seconds. This special strike counts as two goals, but the player will have to position a slider shot in a gauge twice to make a successful shot.
What game modes does Mario Strikers: Battle League Football offer?
Like previous installments in the series, Mario Strikers : Battle League Football propose multiple playable modes from its launch.
- Quick Match mode : matches of 1 to 8 players, online or local
- Cut mode : an eliminatory tournament of 1 to 4 players
- Le mode Club Strikers : an online league system
Club Strikers is a mode where players create a club of 20 people to play online and challenge other clubs in weekly seasons. Depending on the results, the clubs may be promoted or relegated in the different divisions.
What are the playable characters?
Mario Strikers : Battle League Football features most characters from the Mario universe. Players will have a choice of 10 characters who possess various stats like strength, speed, shooting, passing, and technique. These numerous statistics will make it possible to affect a defensive or offensive style of play. Subsequently, Nintendo should propose several other characters as additional downloadable content (DLC) available after launch.
Unlike previous games, the role of goalkeeper is assigned to the Koopa Boom Boom. In the first two opuses, it was the character of Kritter who held this role.
What equipment can we use?
This is a novelty brought by this new opus. It is possible to customize your character with several equipment divided into four classes: the head, the arms, the torso and the legs. Each piece of equipment can be purchased using virtual coins, obtained by participating in football matches. This equipment allows you to modify the appearance of the characters, but also to reassign their stats with a system of bonus-malus which should allow players to adjust the character’s playstyle.
First Kickthe playable demo of Mario Strikers : Battle League Football was announced on 27 from 2022 by Nintendo. It is still available on Nintendo eShop. Thanks to this demo, players of the license Mario Strikers can test two modes:
- A tutorial to discover the controls of the game
- Quick Match mode
Quick Match mode was offered in six one-hour slots Saturday June 4 et Sunday, June 5, 2022.
Mario Strikers : Battle League Football is pre-orderable, in order to avoid stock shortages that may occur on the day of the game’s release. The latest installment in the saga is already available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop at 44,49 euros. The price of video game (pre-order or not) will depend on the merchant site. This is why it is advisable to compare the prices to save money when buying it. Micromania offers the game at 59.99 euros with a license t-shirt and a 10 euro voucher.
Mario Strikers : Charged Football (May 25, 2007) is the second installment in the series. It offers gameplay almost equivalent to the first game. Each team is made up of a captain, three teammates – who can be different, unlike the first game – and Kritter, the goalkeeper. Each character is ranked according to their strengths and weaknesses. The second opus offers several game modes:
- Training mode : 10 lessons to learn game controls
- Le mode Domination : a match between two teams where the player decides all the parameters
- Road to the Striker Cup mode : the player forms a team and must win the final by playing increasingly difficult matches against the computer
- Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Mode : an online mode where the player can play an official match against another player or a friendly match (via the friend code)
- Challenge Mode : 12 missions to complete to unlock game options for Domination mode
Mario Smash Football (November 18, 2005) is the first installment in the series, published by Nintendo on Gamecube. The game takes on the fundamental aspects and classic objectives of classic football games, but players can push their opponents hard, make a super strike (two points) and use items from the Mario saga to hinder their opponent.
Each team consists of the goalkeeper, captain and three teammates. The team captain is one of the main characters in Mario, while the teammates are one of the secondary characters in the Mario universe. Each character has its own characteristics to vary the game system.
Mario Smash Strikers offers different game modes, from 1 to 4 players : Cups mode, Battle mode and Training mode.
