Conventional black holes come in different sizes, or so the theory goes. The giants among them sit at the centers of elliptical and spiral galaxies. They are millions to billions of times more massive than our sun and, as quasars, are among the most luminous objects in the universe. The smaller stellar black holes are remnants of supernova explosions of massive stars at the end of their lives.
