Where is the monkeypox epidemic in our department?

Question from Gus

Where is the monkeypox epidemic?

Hello Gus,

According to the latest data from the National Health Agency, the number of new confirmed cases of monkeypox in France has been decreasing for several weeks.

According to the latest report from Public Health France, stopped Tuesday, September 27 at noon, 3,999 confirmed cases of infection by this virus have been identified in France.

This represented 56 additional cases since the previous assessment, a week earlier. That is “a context of a decrease in the total number of confirmed cases for several weeks”.

A large majority of men, ten children

The vast majority of confirmed cases are adult males, the national health agency said.

The proportion of female cases, which increased in early September, has since fallen. About one patient detected in 12 is a woman.

In addition, ten children under the age of 15 have also been infected with the disease, i.e. 0.25% of confirmed cases as of September 27.

The median age of adults who test positive for “monkeypox” (the English name for the disease) is 36 years old. A quarter of adult cases are under 29 and a quarter are between 43 and 81 years old.

1 in 15 confirmed cases is a resident of the Paca region

If departmental data are not available, Public Health France indicates that the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is the third most affected in France, with 271 cases.

It is Île-de-France which concentrates the vast majority of cases: nearly 2,500, or 6 patients out of 10.
