Where do credentials go at the Cuban Consulate? 2024-07-12 12:00:45

The so-called “Grandchildren Law” will be in force for another year, which is great news for those interested in Cuba, but the slowness of the procedures on the island continues to be overwhelming and many are wondering, where is the sending of credentials going at the Havana Consulate?

Frustration among Cubans applying for Spanish citizenship under the Democratic Memory Law (LMD), also known as the Law of Grandchildren, continues to grow due to the considerable delays at the Spanish Embassy in Cuba. And it is a logical annoyance, since the delay in plans to emigrate to Spain or another European country, in the midst of the current crisis on the island, is no joke.

On social media, numerous users have expressed their outrage at the wait of up to seven months to obtain the credentials needed to complete their paperwork. These are not isolated cases; other applicants have reported waits of up to eight months. The situation has generated a flood of complaints and claims among those affected.

Even complaints have been sent to our website such as: “There are gaps from previous months, from June to October there are more than 300 descendants who have not received credentials or rejection, it is as if we had not sent a PDF or received a confirmation email, we complained to the consular affairs office and there was no response.”

Grandchildren’s Law and the delay in credentials in Cuba

Recently, some applicants for Spanish citizenship under the “Ley de Nietos” have received their credentials from the Spanish embassy and consulate in Havana, Cuba. However, the situation remains inconsistent, as while some documents arrive, others do not.

We received the news directly that, for example, those from November 8th had received the credentials to schedule an appointment and present the documents at the Consulate. It’s been a few weeks now. Where is it going now? Is there any progress?

According to the Facebook page, “Consulado De España en Cuba Tips” where interested parties help and communicate on this issue, the Law of Grandchildren and the delay in credentials in Cuba, this week, the delivery of credentials was for those who sent emails and documents on November 17, 2023.
