This will not have escaped your notice if you take a walk on the Place de Brouckère side: large bright yellow props have been disfiguring part of the facades for months. Work on the Brouck’R project has been on hold since May 2022, since the Council of State suspended the planning permit following the appeal brought by Inter-Environnement Bruxelles and ARAU.
This first permit provided for the demolition of several buildings and their reconstruction with a view to fitting out offices, housing, shops and a hotel (38,000 m2 in total). An ambitious real estate project, led by the company Debrouckere Development, on behalf of BPI Real Estate and Immobel and which planned to enhance the building with a contemporary glass structure.
