Giovanni Toti’s lawyer, Stefano Savi, filed this morning the request to revoke the house arrest for the former president of the Liguria Region. The request was delivered via certified email and comes after almost three months under house arrest. The public prosecutors have two days to express an opinion. The investigating judge will have 5 to decide. After the governor’s resignation, Savi emphasizes, “our request is based on the fact that there are no longer the conditions to maintain custody”. Resignations that came in a climate of pillorying after three months of preventive detention, so much so that the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio commented yesterday: “I am perplexed when a precautionary measure is applied after several years of investigation and especially when it is ‘à petits paquets’, that is, with subsequent measures a short distance from each other”.
Toti’s lawyer also clarified that “The published news of a possible candidacy of Giovanni Toti in the next regional elections are totally unfounded”. “As already declared in the recent past – continues Savi – Toti will not be a candidate, much less in all the constituencies of the Region, as published by a daily newspaper”.
