In an exchange of trills with the Director of Global Health Governance and Professor at the University of Edinburgh School of Medicine in Scotland, Devi Sridhar, Gates touched on various aspects of the coronavirus pandemic.
After an extensive conversation on networks, Sridhar asked Gates about the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and the possible variants that will be discovered in 2022.

“How and when will the pandemic end? Does omicron show that we can ‘live with COVID’? Are there other dangerous variants around the corner in 2022? ”, wrote the director of Global Health Governance.
Faced with this, the billionaire responded: “As countries experience the wave of omicron infections, their health systems will be challenged. Most of the serious cases will be among unvaccinated people. Once the omicron passes through a country, the rest of the year there should be much fewer cases registered, so that the end of the COVID can be treated as the seasonal flu”.

What’s more, Gates was quite optimistic about the omicron variant, mentioning that he does not think there is a more transmissible strain.
“There is likely to be a more transmissive variant, but we were very surprised during this pandemic. Ómicron will create a lot of immunity for at least the next year, ”he added.
