“They cleaned up, they cleaned up, but, as is usual here in Lithuania, they didn’t clean up completely,” the cyclists complained to “Vakaru ekspres”.
In addition, the recreation area near Juodkrantė – benches, fire pit – is extremely untidy: trash cans are constantly overflowing.
When “Vakaru Express” contacted Egle Nemanyte, chief communications manager of the International Relations and Communication Department of the Lithuanian Motorway Directorate (LAKD) and inquired about the planned works, she replied: “The project “Pedestrian and bicycle path Smiltynė-Nida section from 15.576 to 31.232 is currently underway km reconstruction” public procurement of contract works. After the public procurement, reconstruction works of the path will begin from the already reconstructed path to Pervalka (to Naglii dune). The 2-3 km stretch to Juodkrantė is also mentioned in this section. The works are planned to be completed in 2024. A more specific date will be clear after the procurement procedures.”
She also emphasized that it is planned to reconstruct the bicycle path Juodkrantė-Preila.
“A public procurement has also been announced for the reconstruction of the section of the path from Pervalka to Pervalka beach and the section from Preila to Preila beach. Project “Reconstruction of sections of the Smiltynė-Nida pedestrian and bicycle path from 0.010 to 2.029 km, from 0.011 to 1.829 km, from 31.249 to 34.050 km, from 34.074 to 34.217 km”. After the public procurement, the reconstruction works of the path will begin. The works are planned to be completed in 2024. The remaining section of the trail from Preila to Nida does not belong to the Road Directorate under the right of property trust,” said E. Nemanytė.

**Interview with Egle Nemanyte, Chief Communications Manager at LAKD**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Egle. We’ve seen reports from cyclists expressing their dissatisfaction about the cleanliness of recreational areas, particularly near Juodkrantė. What’s the current state of those facilities?
**Egle Nemanyte:** Thank you for having me. We acknowledge the concerns raised by cyclists regarding the cleanliness of our recreational areas, including the benches and fire pits near Juodkrantė. Our team is actively working on improving these facilities and ensuring they are well-maintained.
**Editor:** It seems like the trash cans in the area are overflowing quite frequently. What steps are being taken to address this issue?
**Egle Nemanyte:** Maintaining cleanliness is a priority for us, and we are currently reviewing the waste management protocols in that area. We’re collaborating with local services to ensure that trash is collected more frequently and that bins are adequate for the volume of visitors we receive.
**Editor:** You mentioned that there are ongoing reconstruction works for the pedestrian and bicycle path from Smiltynė to Nida. Can you tell us more about this project and how it might improve the situation?
**Egle Nemanyte:** Absolutely. The project aims to reconstruct the pedestrian and bicycle path along a significant stretch that will not only enhance the safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians but also promote a more inviting atmosphere in the area. The construction includes adequate provisions for waste management and recreational facilities.
**Editor:** When can the public expect the completion of this project and the resulting improvements?
**Egle Nemanyte:** The timeline for completion will depend on the progress of the ongoing works, but we aim to have significant advancements visible by the end of this season. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to enhance these important recreational areas.
**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Egle. It’s important for the community to hear that improvements are on the way!
**Egle Nemanyte:** Thank you for having me, and I assure you that we are dedicated to making these spaces better for everyone.
