When will residents be freed from having to submit monthly meter readings?

“Every month it’s the same thing!” These words can be read in a letter from a Riga resident whose water meter is underground. Especially in winter, regularly taking readings requires some effort.

If you don’t do this, you will receive reminder calls. At the same time, according to him, the support service does not practice the most friendly style of communication, but this is the subjective opinion of a man. The most important thing is that Riga residents do not understand why Rigas Udens does not implement an automated system, which for many would be a huge relief.

According to a company representative, it cannot be said that work on the automated system is not underway.

“Currently, the introduction of automatic recording (telemetry) of commercial metering units or meter readings has begun. Such a system will also be implemented in places that are difficult to read.”

Currently, the first stage of implementation is underway, which involves equipping multi-apartment buildings with the system. “After the successful completion of the first round and analysis of the results, work on the next rounds will continue. As part of this, it is planned to equip all commercial metering devices owned by Rigas Udens with remote data reading.”

However, when can the telemetry system be fully implemented and when will people no longer have to take their own readings every month? In connection with this issue, Rigas Udens prefers to refrain for now from indicating exact dates.

Until then, people are asked to provide up-to-date data every month to be able to calculate the correct amount of services provided. This is important because it also helps detect hidden water leaks in water supply networks.
