Israel was brutally attacked by Hamas in a terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 and now wants to eliminate this terrorist organization in order to perhaps be able to live peacefully in the future. A difficult undertaking because many mistakes were made in the past. Only a political solution can lead to lasting peace.
The offensive warfare once morest Hamas in the Gaza Strip is understandable. However, not all means and methods are permitted in an armed conflict and every war should end in peace. There are already enough dead civilians in Israel and Palestine that it is time to consider peace.
One thing is clear: war wins land, but not political opinions. The accumulated hatred on both sides is currently insurmountable. The release of the Israeli hostages and a ceasefire would be the first steps towards reconciliation.
