When will a new NHL team be created?
I ask the question because it comes up a lot lately. This was notably a topic of discussion earlier this week, as Bill Daly said out loud that the league is open to the possibility of giving the city of Atlanta another chance.
Does that mean it will happen tomorrow morning? I’ll let you answer because the answer is obvious.
That said, if there is expansion in a few years… It might pay off big for the NHL. Darren Dreger talks regarding an amount (of the expansion costs that the owners share) which amounts to up to 2 billion dollars… Which, obviously, would be a HUGE financial hit for the league.
Because deep down, it’s day and night when we think of the fact that the Knights paid a sum of $500 million in 2017 and that the Kraken amounted to $650 million (2021) in order to join the NHL.
There is a big difference, we agree:
As the NHL continues to acknowledge, expansion is not a priority, however, sources suggest, if the league considers expansion in the next 5 years….$2 billion might be the number. ????

It’s even crazier when we think that the Penguins were sold in 2021 for an amount that flirts with $900 million… While the Sens were sold for nearly $1 billion in the last month.
Once once more, the difference is notable.
At the moment, it is mainly the names of Houston and Atlanta that are being talked regarding when people talk regarding possible expansion.
I don’t want to hurt you, the people of Quebec… But that won’t happen. At least, if the Nordiques were to return one day, it won’t be for five years.
Obviously, the idea of bringing new clubs into the league is popular because the Golden Knights and Kraken experienced immediate financial success. They also have success on the ice, as Vegas lifted the Stanley Cup last spring and Seattle qualified for the playoffs in its second year of existence…
And in the end, we agree that it is a question of money. It would be illogical for the league to introduce new teams if it led to financial losses…
And since the experiment worked with the Golden Knights with the Kraken, it makes sense to see that the leaders are thinking regarding this scenario.
That said, it’s a lot of money, two billion dollars. I can’t wait to see how the case ends.
When we say that it’s money that runs the world… That’s what it means.
A lot of

– Arg. I’m going with Brady Tkachuk, I think.
Accounting for age, current ability, future ability, contract, playstyle, and position – which player would you rather start your franchise with?
