when we ate humans in Europe

While the Europeans set out to conquer what is now the American continent, the conquistadors and other explorers returned home with terrible tales of cannibalism, practiced by certain tribes in the Amazon for example (Tupinamba and Wari). Things were not very different in Europe at the time, however. Europeans, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries, also had a strong taste for humans, especially in the form of bones, fat and blood!

The history of medicine is marred by bizarre practices. Therefore, while it should come as no surprise, cannibalism was actually much more prevalent in Europe than you might think. This begs the question: were the Europeans cannibals? In the strict sense of the word, yes, it seems.
