When traveling between Vilnius and Kaunas, they will offer cheaper train tickets: but with one condition | Business

More than 1.6 million passengers traveled by train on the most popular route Vilnius-Kaunas-Vilnius in 2023. The vast majority of passengers (83%) bought tickets on the day of departure, mostly they chose single tickets. This particular route was chosen for the pilot project of dynamic pricing – it will allow to see and evaluate the changing habits of passengers in a short time.

“Our main goal is to increase the number of passengers on trains, giving them the opportunity to travel comfortably, safely and sustainably. By offering the opportunity to travel cheaper, we change the habits of passengers and encourage them to plan their trip in advance rather than buying tickets at the last minute. By seeing the availability of trains in advance, we will be able to manage passenger flows more efficiently, adjust rolling stock, and ensure even better service,” says LTG Link manager Kristina Meidė.

Single tickets with dynamic pricing are scheduled to go on sale on August 2nd, and tickets will be available for eight train journeys departing from September 1st. Passengers will see cheaper ticket offers on the sales platform after expanding the flights of the selected day. With the introduction of dynamic pricing, all valid commercial discounts and benefits will remain when purchasing tickets.

When buying tickets for these trains a month in advance, tickets will cost up to 40%. less, for a second class ticket instead of EUR 8, passengers who buy tickets in advance will pay EUR 4.80. After a limited number of tickets are purchased, the ticket price will gradually increase to the regular price.

The dynamic pricing project is planned to be tested on eight trains until mid-December. Then decisions will be made regarding the introduction of dynamic pricing on a larger number of trains and on other routes.
