The Buck Moon will be visible at 6:19 a.m. on July 21, 2024, as stated by the Farmer’s Almanac. The name of this month’s full moon comes from the period when male deer antlers begin to grow. Adult male deer grow antlers that fall off every winter and regrow each summer.
The full moon happens when the moon is on the opposite side of the sun, causing the nearside of the moon to be fully lit, according to NASA. The full moon in July is also known as the Squash are Ripe Moon by the Algonquin, the Moon of the Young Corn by the Potawatomi, and the Raspberry Moon by the Anishnaabe.
The whole lunar cycle, which includes all phases from new moon to full moon and back, lasts 29.5 days.

- Animals in the deer family – such as deer, elk, and moose – have antlers that are made of bone and shed annually. This is different from horns, which are grown by bovine animals like cows, goats, and sheep.
- Antlers have the fastest bone growth in the world, with adult white-tailed deer antlers growing as much as a ¼ inch per day.
- While antlers are useful during the fall mating season, deer shed them in the winter. This can result in a significant weight difference, as deer antlers can weigh between 3 to 9 pounds, with healthier deer growing heavier antlers.

Whether you are using a high-end DSLR camera or the smartphone in your pocket, capturing a beautiful picture of the moon is possible. Keeping your camera stable through the use of a tripod or other stabilization methods is crucial to getting a good shot with a long exposure.
A better lens will provide more detail on the craters and other features of the moon’s surface. Regardless of the camera you use, setting a low ISO and wide aperture, while using a low shutter speed, will help achieve a proper exposure of the moon.
