when “the flu peak” is expected –

Despite the mild and above average temperatures, “the first flu viruses are starting to circulate and therefore we are now on the verge of the start of the flu epidemic. In recent years we have seen that the flu has circulated slightly earlier, so probably this year too there will be a circulation that precedes the normal flu peak which, as we know, is expected at the end of November-December”. Massimo Andreoni, scientific director of Simit, the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, and full professor at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, declared this to Adnkronos Salute. On the sidelines of the conference “Hepatitis C Objective for Elimination – The moment is now”, which was held in Rome, the expert anticipated that “we must somehow alert ourselves, keep our guard up because in Australia this flu has been particularly severe, with numerous hospitalizations and more than 15 million people who have contracted the virus.”

How to prevent the flu. The importance of the vaccine administered by specialized personnel

“We must prepare – warned Andreoni – knowing that the virus takes about 2 weeks to create good immunity in people. The time has come to get vaccinated because it is actually the most valid measure we can implement to defend ourselves from the flu”. When asked if we should worry more about the flu than Covid, the infectious disease specialist clarified: “Both pathologies are circulating together. More than 2,700 people have died from Covid since January 1st to date. Covid is not a seasonal infection, we understand, it circulates all year round. But in the winter and autumn periods it does so with greater intensity”. So for the 2 diseases “we have to get vaccinated, today we can even do it at the same time. Vaccination must be strongly recommended by doctors, especially general practitioners”, he concluded.
