When stars react to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

As the trauma caused by the Covid-19 crisis began to be overcome, terrible news fell. Indeed, on February 24, 2022, the whole world learned that Russia had launched an attack against Ukraine. Yes, the Russian invasion was an imminent threat, but the attack was a surprise. Gradually, celebrities began to react to this conflict, mainly on social networks.

On April 29, Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to the city of Lviv, located in western Ukraine. The region’s governor, Maksym Kozytskyy, said the actress and special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees came to speak with displaced people who have found refuge in Lviv, including children who have injured in the missile strike on the Kramatorsk railway station in early April (according to the Time, this strike would have killed more than 50 civilians). Angelina Jolie also reportedly visited a boarding school and met evacuees arriving at Lviv Central Station, as well as Ukrainian volunteers providing medical aid and counseling to new arrivals.

“In addition to the millions of people who have fled beyond Ukraine’s borders, nearly 2 million people are internally displaced, many trapped by fighting, without access to ‘help and are in direct physical danger,’ the Hollywood star captioned an Instagram post last month. “Without a halt to war, children will pay the highest price – trauma, lost childhoods and shattered lives.”
