Superstar Sanjay Dutt has told in an interview how he felt when he was diagnosed with cancer two years ago.
Sanjay said his sister Priya Dutt broke the news to him, after which he cried for hours thinking about his family and life.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Sanjay also spoke about how he fought the disease to regain his strength.
Sanjay said his doctor had warned him of the side effects of chemotherapy and told him nothing would happen.
It should be noted that Sanjay was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in August 2020, a few months after which he shared a note.
According to the note: ‘The last few weeks have been very difficult for me and my family but as they say, God gives his strongest soldiers the hardest battles and today, on my children’s birthday, I have won this battle. Happy to come out and be able to give them the best gift.’
Speaking to YouTuber Ranveer Al-Habadiya, Sanjay recalled: ‘It was a normal day in the lockdown due to the coronavirus. I was completely out of breath when I went up the stairs.’

‘I had a shower, I couldn’t breathe, I didn’t know what was going on, I called my doctor.’
He continued and said, ‘In the X-ray, my lungs were more than half submerged in water. They had to drain the water. They were all hoping it was TB but it turned out to be cancer.’
‘How to convey this news to me, that itself was a big problem because I could break someone’s mouth, so my sister came and told me. ‘I said ok, I’ve got cancer, now what?’
“Then we started planning, I will do this and that. But I cried for more than two or three hours because I was thinking about my children and my life and my wife and everything. But then I said: ‘I’ll stop being weak.’
Sanjay said that at first he did not get a visa and it was decided to get treatment in India. Actor Hrithik Roshan’s father, actor and producer Rakesh Roshan suggested a doctor.
Sanjay revealed that when the doctor warned him of hair loss and vomiting, he said: ‘Nothing will happen to me.’
He also said that he used to cycle for an hour every day after the chemotherapy session. The actor also told of going to Dubai for chemotherapy and then playing badminton for two to three hours. Sanjay has now recovered from cancer.

**Interview with Sanjay Dutt: A Journey Through Cancer**
**Interviewer:** Sanjay, thank you for joining us today. It’s been quite a journey since your diagnosis in 2020. Can you take us back to that moment when you first received the news?
**Sanjay Dutt:** Thank you for having me. It was truly one of the most challenging moments of my life. My sister Priya was the one who broke the news to me. I’ll never forget that day. I cried for hours, thinking about my family, my children, and what it all meant for them.
**Interviewer:** That sounds incredibly tough. When you went through the treatment, what was it like fighting cancer?
**Sanjay Dutt:** It was a battle, both physically and emotionally. The treatments took a toll on me, especially the chemotherapy. I remember my doctor warning me about the side effects. He told me that it wouldn’t be easy, but I had to stay strong and keep fighting.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned earlier a specific moment that made you seek medical attention. Can you tell us more about that?
**Sanjay Dutt:** Of course. It was during the lockdown when things were already stressful for everyone. I was going up the stairs and suddenly felt completely out of breath. I had just taken a shower, and I couldn’t breathe at all. That’s when I knew something was seriously wrong. I called my doctor immediately, which eventually led me to my diagnosis.
**Interviewer:** And yet, you emerged victorious. You shared a heartfelt note on your children’s birthday announcing that you were cancer-free. How did that moment feel?
**Sanjay Dutt:** It was surreal. The last few weeks had been incredibly difficult, but in that moment, I felt a wave of relief and gratitude. I wrote that note because I wanted to convey that no matter how tough the battle gets, there is always hope. To come out of it and be able to give my children a gift on their special day—that was everything to me.
**Interviewer:** Your resilience is inspiring, Sanjay. What message do you have for others who might be facing similar struggles?
**Sanjay Dutt:** Life can throw unimaginable challenges our way, but it’s important to keep fighting and to never lose hope. Surround yourself with supportive loved ones and trust in your strength. Remember, every battle has a purpose, and there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
