The last few weeks have been emotionally charged for Georges-Louis Bouchez. Before seeing the club of which he is the president, the Francs-Borains, move to D1B, the Montois was for a week the target of mockery and very critical comments on social networks and in the press, French and Dutch.
His departure from the reality show “Special Forces” provoked what is called in web jargon a shitstorm, a torrent of remarks of rare pressure on a French-speaking politician. Some of these attacks sometimes went below the belt, seizing a coach’s “Stick your penis at the bar” and the hashtag of circumstance to go further.
How did the president of the Liberals experience it? “In this kind of case, you just have to wait for it to pass. The little world is having fun, but the real people realized that their problems were not fixed as a result”answers Georges-Louis Bouchez.

Can we talk regarding harassment? If there was harassment, it was not necessarily in this context. “It’s not a sequel to the show. Every day, I am among those who are entitled to the attacks of a small army. They are ten. Most are anonymous accounts. They come to harass you, to criticize you. Every little thing you do, even the most positive, is transformed. When there is good news, it is not thanks to me. When there is bad news, it is sure that it is because of me. And sometimes it goes on insults that are extremely important.”
The liberal describes attacks that are daily. “There are anonymous accounts which are relentless and which fall within the criminal qualification of harassment. Afterwards, there are certain politicians who have decided to highlight this all the time, to file a complaint. I understand. I can understand that humanly, it is not bearable. The problem is that at some point, I made the choice to tell myself that there are other things to do. I don’t necessarily have time to go to the police and do all these procedures. On the other hand, I would be curious to know who is behind these anonymous accounts. To have so much time, it is either people who live on allowances, or people who work in ministerial offices. But we have to take a step back. These people are far from being representative of the population. When I go out on the street, we don’t have the same reactions at all.

In the program Les Visiteurs du Soir, the Liberal explains that it is a great political recognition to have been the first French-speaking politician to participate in a Flemish reality TV show. On the political and media reactions, on the other hand, he finds “that there have been excessive things”. “Political use” et “the caricature” that some tried to make his defeat were too much, according to him.
In general, Georges-Louis Bouchez prefers to do the big back. “I do not evaluate the effectiveness of my actions on the basis of what the Rue de la Loi says or what the journalists say. I listen to those who are on the ground. It’s another way of evaluating.”
