This improvement of 87 million euros is mainly due to the large profits made on player sales, which jumped by 75 million euros, from 38 million euros to 113 million euros. Increasing income and decreasing payroll
Ajax’s revenues were hit by falling television revenue from European competitions, resulting in an €18 million (25%) decrease in broadcast rights, from €74 million to €56 million. euros. But this decline was offset by increases in the other two sources of revenue. Ticket revenue grew 49% to €17 million, from €34 million to €51 million, as some matches were played without spectators in the previous season due to COVID restrictions, while commercial revenue increased 9 million euros (11%), from 81 to 90 million euros.
Unlike previous seasons, the COVID pandemic did not impact financial results. Ajax’s team costs fell as the wage bill fell by €10 million (9%), from €109 million to €99 million, while player write-offs increased slightly decreased by 1 million euros (2%), to 56 million euros. However, other expenses increased by €7 million (9%), mainly due to the higher costs of organizing all matches with spectators.
