Lately, Mali has been accused of violating human rights. The accusing fingers are precisely France and Ecuador, which have seized the forum of the United Nations to denounce the human rights situation in Mali. Faced with this posture of these States, the Ambassador Permanent Representative of Mali to the United Nations immediately replied to their allegations which are only intended to defile our country.
It all started with the fact that in his speech, Nicolas de Rivière, permanent representative of France to the United Nations on the Security Council accused Mali of human rights violations. Then was indignant at the fact that the Moura massacre had still not been clarified, before evoking the need for a requirement towards the Minusma whose mandate which he considered “robust” must be implemented to protect civilians and support the Algiers agreement among others.
The shepherd’s answer to the shepherdess!
Without jargon, His Excellency Issa Konfourou Permanent Representative of the Republic of Mali to the United Nations first suggested that Mali will stand up strongly once morest any use of the issue of human rights for political purposes. or destabilization. However, felt that his French counterpart has a short memory by only talking regarding Moura’s case. He thinks that if the French Ambassador does not have a selective memory, let him tell this Council that in January 2021, French forces transformed a mourning wedding celebration in Mali at Bounty.
In his speech, the Malian diplomat recalled that several paragraphs of the report of the international commission of inquiry on Mali that his French counterpart finds “inaccurate and unfounded”, are devoted to human rights violations once morest the Malian populations by the French forces. “I would have liked him to tell this Council the efforts they have made to follow up on the two reports that have been published to this effect and to take only these two examples,” he said.
Ecuador also called to order!
Then, the Malian diplomat indicated having heard other interpellations, in particular that of the representative of Ecuador still on the subject of human rights. For Issa Konfourou, Mali has no lesson to receive from a country like Ecuador which, moreover, is regularly challenged in relation to human rights violations.
This is explained, according to him, by cases of restrictions on freedom of expression, assembly and persecution of journalists by prosecutors and judges which are commonplace in Ecuador. “So not having the selective memory concerning the violations of human rights, they are valid for all of us”, he adds. However, the permanent representative to the United Nations reassured that Mali wishes to work with everyone to improve the human rights situation. But is rather opposed to the politicization and stigmatization of this specific issue.
