Engineer’s Day in Mexico

On July 1, 1973, it was established on the initiative of the then Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Eugenio Méndez Docurro, and was made official by President Luis Echeverría Álvarez.

It was proposed that it be July 1st because, on this date, but in 1776, the Royal Decree was issued for the creation of the Royal Mining Tribunal in Mexico, which gave rise to the foundation of the teaching and research center called the Royal Mining Seminar, where the first study plans and texts for the first engineering schools in America took place.

In Mexico, there are at least 1.6 million people with skills or training in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), among which are people with an engineering degree.
